The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999179 is a jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size No. 5, equal to 0.2055 inches decimal diameter. Made from high speed steel (HSS) with a steam oxide coating, it features a standard 118-degree split-point angle and a right-hand spiral flute configuration. The 2-flute, web-thinned design reduces thrust at entry and clears chips efficiently during through-hole drilling. Overall length is 3.75 inches with a 2.5-inch flute length. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance trades install this bit in standard drill presses and hand drills for everyday production and repair work.
This bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium in general-purpose applications. The steam oxide finish provides light lubricity and corrosion resistance during storage and initial use. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.2055 inches diameter fits standard three-jaw chucks without adapters. It is appropriate for residential and light commercial maintenance tasks as well as fabrication and production environments where a reliable, standard-tolerance jobber-length bit is needed. Series R18A is consistent with ANSI and NAS 907 standards.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard three-jaw drill chuck accepting a 0.2055-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for use in hand drills, drill presses, and CNC drilling applications. Series designation covers R10A, R15A, and R18A series as noted by the manufacturer.
This bit is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and general tradespeople using standard drill presses or portable electric drills. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck before operation and verify chuck key removal before starting. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point is damaged to avoid workpiece damage or bit breakage.
