The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999113 is a jobber-length twist drill bit sized to wire gauge 27 (0.1440 inches decimal), designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking applications. Built from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating, the bit features a 135-degree split-point tip and a right-hand spiral flute configuration. The web-thinned, tapered web design reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. With a 3-inch overall length and a 1-7/8-inch flute length, this bit fits standard drill chucks via its straight cylindrical shank. It is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators across production and maintenance environments.
This drill bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. The steam oxide finish provides mild lubricity and corrosion resistance during dry or lightly lubricated drilling operations. The R18B series designation places this bit in PRECISION TWIST DRILL's heavy-duty jobber-length line, meeting ANSI and NAS 907 standards. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in sheet metal, structural steel, and machined components where a wire-gauge-sized hole is specified.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.1440-inch straight cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium as specified by material codes P, M, K, N, and S. Part of PRECISION TWIST DRILL Series R10B-R15B-R18B.
Install in a keyed or keyless drill chuck and verify the shank is fully seated before operation. Power down and de-energize any machine tool before changing bits. Apply cutting fluid or lubricant appropriate to the workpiece material to extend bit life when drilling ferrous metals. Follow shop safety standards and applicable ANSI machining guidelines when selecting feeds and speeds for the workpiece material.
