The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999076 is a No. 17 wire-size jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of metal and hard materials. It is manufactured from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating that reduces friction and helps resist corrosion during use. The bit measures 3.375 inches overall length with a 2.1875-inch spiral flute length and a straight-cylindrical shank of 0.1730 inches in diameter. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and requires less thrust than a standard 118-degree point. This is a right-hand, two-flute bit with a tapered web and web thinning for improved chip clearance. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, pipefitters, and general tradespeople install and use this bit with standard drill presses or handheld power drills.
This bit is suited for drilling into steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. Its 13xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral geometry make it a practical choice for through-hole and blind-hole applications in both shop and field environments. It is sold individually and is appropriate for any trade application requiring a No. 17 wire-gauge hole, including pilot holes, clearance holes, and tap-size drilling.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or supplemental jobber-length drill bit for applications requiring a No. 17 wire-size hole in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium across residential and commercial trade settings.
Install this bit into any standard drill chuck sized to accept a 0.1730-inch straight shank. Ensure the chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped before drilling. Power down all equipment before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend tool life and manage heat buildup.
