The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998996 is a jobber length drill bit sized to wire gauge number 20, with a decimal diameter of 0.1610 inches. It is manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish and features a standard 118-degree split point angle with web thinning for improved centering and reduced walking on entry. The two-flute spiral design with a regular helix provides efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and blind drilling operations. With an overall length of 3.25 inches and a flute length of 2.125 inches, this bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and production environments. It is installed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and HVAC or plumbing service pros drilling pilot holes in sheet metal and structural stock.
This bit is designed for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It follows the R18P series designation within the R10P-R15P-R18P series line and conforms to ANSI standards. The straight cylindrical shank accommodates standard drill chucks and collet holders found on benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC machining centers. The 13xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports drilling depths up to 2.125 inches without step-drilling in most general-purpose applications.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck or collet holder accepting a 0.1610-inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for use on drill presses, hand drills, and CNC machining centers across ANSI-standard tooling setups.
Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck or collet before operation and verify concentricity to minimize runout. De-energize or lock out any power tool or machine before changing bits per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend tool life, noting that this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the point shows rounding or heat discoloration.
