The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998830 is a screw machine length high speed steel drill bit designed for fast, accurate hole drilling in metal and other materials. With a 0.157 inch (number 22 wire gauge) diameter and a 118-degree standard point angle, this bit delivers clean entry and consistent performance in production and maintenance environments. The web-thinned, tapered web construction reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. At 2.125 inches overall length with a 1.0625 inch flute length, the shortened body gives rigid support in close-quarters drilling. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, plumbers, and electricians working with sheet metal or structural components will find this bit well suited to repetitive-cycle work.
This bit fits screw machine and drill press applications where stub-length rigidity is preferred over jobber-length reach. The straight cylindrical shank seats securely in standard three-jaw chucks and quick-change holders. The regular spiral flute and 2.5xD flute-to-diameter ratio handle chip clearance efficiently in the 0.15 to 0.20 inch diameter range. The bright uncoated finish is appropriate for general-purpose use across a wide range of workpiece materials, with a listed primary suitability for titanium per the manufacturer specification. Meets ANSI standards for dimensional accuracy and point geometry.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production drill bit for use in three-jaw chucks, keyless chucks, and quick-change drill holders accepting straight cylindrical shanks in the 0.157 inch diameter range.
Install in a properly sized chuck and tighten securely before operation. Ensure the drilling machine is powered off and the spindle is fully stopped before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling hard metals to extend tool life and maintain point geometry. Inspect the point for wear or chipping after extended use in production cycles.
