The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998828 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to Letter N (0.3020 inches) and manufactured from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating. Designed for right-hand cutting with a standard 118-degree point angle, it features a regular spiral flute geometry and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust during entry. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.3020 inches in diameter and 1.3125 inches in length. Overall length is 4.375 inches with a flute length of 3.0625 inches, offering a 10xD flute-to-diameter ratio for efficient chip evacuation. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance trades install this bit with standard drill chucks on benchtop and floor drill presses as well as hand-held power drills.
This bit is rated for general-purpose drilling in a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. It conforms to ANSI standards and falls within the R10-R15-R18 series from Precision Twist Drill, making it a direct fit for production, maintenance, and repair drilling operations where a Letter N diameter hole is required. Coolant-through capability is not available on this bit, so standard flood or mist cooling at the workpiece surface is the appropriate method for heat management in harder materials.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose jobber-length drill bit in the Precision Twist Drill R10-R15-R18 series, suitable for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.3020-inch straight-cylindrical shank across drill presses, CNC drilling centers, and hand-held power drills.
This bit is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using a standard keyed or keyless drill chuck. Ensure the chuck jaws are clean and the shank is fully seated before tightening to prevent runout. For stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, reduce spindle speed and apply cutting fluid at the workpiece surface to manage heat buildup and extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is present.
