The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998800 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a steam oxide coating, the bit runs a 118-degree standard point angle and a right-hand spiral flute for consistent chip evacuation. The 9/16-inch diameter straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without an adapter. A tapered web with web thinning reduces thrust requirements and improves center-starting accuracy. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals select this bit for production and repair drilling across a wide range of workpiece materials.
This bit belongs to the Series R10-R15-R18 family and is suited for use in drill presses, hand drills, and magnetic base drills. At 6.625 inches overall length with a 4.8125-inch flute length, it provides adequate depth clearance for most structural and mechanical drilling tasks. The 9xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports drilling to a maximum depth of 4.8125 inches without a peck cycle in most applications. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical contractors will find this bit appropriate for hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous base materials encountered in typical field and shop work.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length replacement bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 9/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S per the supplier specification.
A licensed machinist or qualified trade technician should secure the shank fully in a keyed or keyless drill chuck before operation. Verify the drill press or hand drill is powered off and unplugged before bit changes. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium to reduce heat buildup and extend bit life. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling.
