The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998691 is a No. 24 wire-size screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding trade applications. Built from high-speed steel with a coated finish, it measures 0.1520 inches in diameter and 2-1/16 inches overall length with a 1-inch flute length. The 135-degree split point with web thinning reduces thrust force and improves centering on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch in most setups. The tapered web configuration adds rigidity while the regular spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently. This bit is rated for heavy-duty use and conforms to ANSI and NAS 907 standards.
This bit is sized for light metalworking and precision drilling tasks where a short, rigid cutting length is required. The screw machine length profile — shorter than jobber-length bits — minimizes deflection in drill press, CNC, and turret lathe applications. It is rated for titanium as a primary workpiece material, making it suitable for aerospace, defense, and precision machining environments. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics working with tight tolerances and hard-to-machine alloys will find this bit appropriate for production and repair drilling alike.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement bit in the R41C series, suitable for drill presses, CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and hand-held drill chucks accepting a 0.1520-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for titanium and falls within the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch drill bit size range of the R41C series lineup.
Machinists and toolroom technicians should de-energize and lock out the machine before changing bits. Verify chuck or collet runout before seating the shank to preserve cutting geometry. Cutting fluid or coolant is recommended when drilling titanium or other high-strength alloys to manage heat buildup, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the split point for chipping after use on hard materials before returning the bit to service.
