The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998527 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle, a web-thinned tapered web, and a right-hand spiral flute for efficient chip evacuation. At 5/32 inch (0.1562 inches) in diameter, it fits a straight-cylindrical shank and measures 2-1/16 inches in overall length with a 1-inch flute length. The screw machine length profile provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in short-hole drilling operations. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and industrial maintenance mechanics are the primary installers and users.
This drill bit is suited for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, screw machines, and handheld power drills where a compact, rigid bit is required. It is rated for drilling titanium as a primary workpiece material, making it a capable option for aerospace, plumbing fitting, and precision mechanical work. The regular spiral flute geometry and 2.5xD flute-to-diameter ratio support controlled chip flow in both through-hole and blind-hole applications. It conforms to ANSI standards and falls within the Series R40 lineup from Precision Twist Drill.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit compatible with standard three-jaw chucks and collet holders accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 5/32 inch diameter range, conforming to ANSI specification.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tools and applicable shop safety practices. Ensure the drill press, lathe, or CNC spindle is fully stopped and de-energized before changing or securing the bit in the chuck or collet. Verify chuck or collet capacity matches the straight-cylindrical shank diameter before tightening. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material being drilled, and never exceed the rated speed range for the bit diameter and material combination.
