The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998518 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding trade and industrial applications. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a coated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle, a web-thinned tapered web for reduced entry force, and a right-hand spiral flute configuration. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and machine spindles. At 0.7656 inches (49/64 inch) in diameter with a flute length of 3.25 inches and an overall length of 5.125 inches, it falls within the Series R40 line built to ANSI standards.
This bit is rated for primary use on titanium and other hard metals where a high-performance HSS tool is appropriate. The screw machine length format — shorter than jobber length — provides added rigidity and reduced deflection, making it well suited for drill press work, CNC lathe turrets, and multi-spindle screw machine operations. The 2.5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports efficient chip evacuation in short-hole drilling cycles. It is a single-piece, general-purpose bit appropriate for machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance trades working with ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit cutting tool for drill presses, CNC lathes, turret machines, and multi-spindle screw machines accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at 0.7656 inches in diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with metal cutting operations. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck or collet before beginning any cut and verify runout with a dial indicator if precision tolerances are required. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Follow applicable ANSI and shop-floor safety standards for drilling speed, feed rate, and coolant use when working with titanium or high-strength alloys.
