The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998450 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of metalworking applications. Ground from high speed steel (HSS) and finished with a steam oxide coating, this bit handles steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The 118-degree standard point angle suits most shop and field drilling tasks. At 3.875 inches overall length with a 2.625-inch spiral flute, the bit delivers a 12xD flute-to-diameter ratio that provides adequate chip clearance and rigidity for production and maintenance drilling. It carries a wire gauge size of 1, equivalent to 0.2280 inches in decimal. The web-thinned, tapered-web design reduces entry force and improves centering on the workpiece.
This bit is suited for professional metalworking environments including fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and field service. It handles drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. The right-hand cut, two-flute spiral design with straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without modification. Part of the Precision Twist Drill Series R10-R15-R18 line, it is built to ANSI specifications for consistent geometry across production runs. Sold individually, it is appropriate for both bench drill presses and handheld drilling applications.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 0.2280-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with drill press and handheld drilling operations. Secure the workpiece and confirm chuck is tightened before operation. Follow applicable shop safety protocols including eye protection and appropriate cutting fluid use when drilling stainless steel or superalloys. Inspect the bit for wear or chipping before each use and replace if cutting geometry is compromised.
