The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998417 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle and a two-flute right-hand spiral configuration. The bit measures 17/64 inch (0.2656 inch) in diameter with an overall length of 4.125 inches and a flute length of 2.875 inches. The tapered web and web-thinned geometry reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation. This bit is installed and used by machinists, maintenance technicians, HVAC installers, plumbers, and electricians for general metal drilling tasks.
This drill bit is suited for drilling into steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. The straight-cylindrical shank accommodates standard three-jaw drill chucks on handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC machines. The Series R10P design follows ANSI standards, making it a reliable general-purpose option across fabrication, maintenance, and installation trades. The 11xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides good chip clearance during deeper passes up to the maximum drilling depth of 2.875 inches.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard three-jaw chuck accepting a 17/64 inch straight-cylindrical shank, including handheld drills, drill presses, and compatible CNC tooling. Suitable for workpiece materials coded P, M, K, N, and S per the supplier attribute listing.
Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized chuck before use and verify the chuck is fully tightened to prevent slippage. Use appropriate work-holding to secure the workpiece and prevent rotation during drilling. Apply cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend tool life and manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use; a dull or damaged bit can cause work-hardening in stainless and hard materials.
