The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998324 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge number 2 (0.2210 inches decimal equivalent) with a 118-degree standard point angle. Manufactured from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it delivers reliable performance in general-purpose drilling applications. The bit features a two-flute spiral configuration with a tapered web and web-thinned point for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust. Overall length is 3.875 inches with a 2.625-inch flute length and a straight-cylindrical shank. Right-hand cut geometry is standard. This bit is appropriate for licensed trades and machining professionals performing repetitive production or service drilling.
This drill bit is suited for use on a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Its 12xD flute-to-diameter ratio and jobber-length format make it a practical choice for bench drill press work, hand-held power drilling, and maintenance applications in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general fabrication environments. The Series R18 designation places it within the R10-R15-R18 product family from Precision Twist Drill. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied when drilling harder materials.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose jobber-length bit for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 0.2210-inch straight shank. Suitable for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium per the manufacturer-stated primary workpiece material ratings (material codes P, M, K, N, S).
Install in a keyed or keyless drill chuck rated for the shank diameter and secure firmly before operation. Power down and lock out the drill press or driver before changing bits. Apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, cast iron, or superalloys to extend tool life and prevent work hardening. Follow applicable ANSI and shop-safety standards for drilling speeds and feeds based on workpiece material and bit diameter.
