The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998306 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge number 15, with a decimal diameter of 0.1800 inches. It is manufactured from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating that reduces friction and helps resist corrosion during drilling operations. The bit features a standard 118-degree split-point angle, a two-flute spiral configuration, and a web-thinned, tapered web design that improves chip evacuation and reduces entry resistance. It is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals working on ferrous and non-ferrous materials in production, fabrication, and field service environments.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without modification. With an overall length of 3.375 inches and a flute length of 2.1875 inches, it handles drilling depths up to 2.1875 inches, making it appropriate for through-holes and moderate-depth blind holes in typical structural and sheet stock thicknesses. It is part of the PRECISION TWIST DRILL Series R10-R15-R18 line and conforms to ANSI standards.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit suitable for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks, drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld power drills accepting straight-cylindrical shanks at 0.1800 inches diameter. Rated for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium per the manufacturer material code designations P, M, K, N, and S.
Secure the shank firmly in the chuck and verify chuck runout before beginning a drilling operation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, hardened steel, or titanium to extend tool life and manage heat buildup. Do not exceed the maximum drilling depth of 2.1875 inches in a single pass without retracting to clear chips. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point is damaged to avoid workpiece damage or bit breakage.
