Product Description

The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998051 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to No. 56 wire gauge (0.0465 inches decimal equivalent, approximately 3/64 inches fractional). Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it features a standard 118-degree split-point angle and a regular spiral flute for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly into standard drill chucks without adapters. At 1.75 inches overall length with a 0.75-inch flute, this bit is designed for precision small-hole work where controlled entry and clean exit matter. Licensed tradespeople and shop technicians reach for this series when drilling tight-tolerance pilot holes or clearance holes in production and repair applications.

This bit is suited for drilling steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium in both shop and field environments. The web-thinned, tapered-web construction reduces entry force on harder substrates. The 16xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 0.75-inch maximum drilling depth make it best suited for shallow-hole applications typical in HVAC bracket fabrication, electrical panel work, plumbing fixture mounting, and general metalworking. Sold individually; minimum order quantity is 12 units per order increment per supplier specification.

Key Features

  • No. 56 wire size, 0.0465-inch decimal equivalent for precision small-diameter drilling
  • 118-degree standard point angle for general-purpose entry on steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals
  • High-speed steel construction with bright uncoated finish
  • Web-thinned, tapered-web design reduces thrust force on hard materials
  • Right-hand cut, 2-flute regular spiral for efficient chip evacuation
  • ANSI-compliant Series R10H-R18H jobber-length standard

Compatibility

Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in standard keyless or keyed drill chucks accepting a 0.0465-inch (3/64-inch) straight-cylindrical shank. Conforms to ANSI specification for the R10H-R18H series.

Installation Notes

Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck before operation and verify runout before drilling into finished or close-tolerance workpieces. Power down or unplug the drill before bit changes. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling harder ferrous metals to extend tool life, even though this bit does not feature through-coolant capability. Dispose of worn bits per shop safety protocols, as broken small-diameter bits can create hazardous sharp debris.
