Product Description

The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998041 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of metallic materials. Ground from high-speed steel (HSS) with a steam oxide coating, it delivers solid wear resistance and reduced friction during the cut. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without center-punching and resists walking on hard or curved surfaces. At 4.25 inches overall length with a 2.9375-inch flute, this bit fits standard drill chucks and most benchtop or handheld drilling setups. Two spiral flutes clear chips efficiently. A tapered web with web thinning reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation in deeper holes.

This bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It follows a 10xD flute-to-diameter ratio, making it a practical choice for production drilling, maintenance work, and fabrication applications where a reliable jobber-length HSS bit is needed. The straight cylindrical shank measures 9/32 inch in diameter, fitting directly into standard drill chucks without adapters. Series R10B is rated for heavy-duty use and conforms to ANSI and NAS 907 standards, making it appropriate for aerospace, industrial, and mechanical trade work.

Key Features

  • 135-degree split point for self-starting cuts and reduced walking on hard surfaces
  • High-speed steel construction with steam oxide coating for wear resistance and lubricity
  • Web-thinned tapered web reduces drilling thrust and improves chip flow
  • Two spiral flutes with regular helix for efficient chip evacuation
  • Straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters
  • Conforms to ANSI and NAS 907 standards; rated heavy-duty for demanding applications

Compatibility

Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 9/32-inch straight cylindrical shank. Compatible primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Conforms to NAS 907 specification and ANSI standards. Part of the R10B-R15B-R18B series.

Installation Notes

Install in a standard keyless or keyed drill chuck, ensuring the shank is fully seated and the chuck is tightened securely before operation. Machinists, maintenance mechanics, and fabricators typically handle installation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Inspect the bit for chipping or dulling before each use and replace if the cutting edge is compromised.
