The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998020 is a jobber length drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in metal and hard materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it resists heat and reduces friction during cutting. The bit features a 135-degree split point for accurate self-centering and reduced walking on hard surfaces. With an overall length of 4.5 inches and a flute length of 3.1875 inches, it fits standard drill chucks and drill presses used in trade and industrial environments. Licensed HVAC technicians, pipefitters, electricians, and general metalworkers reach for this bit daily on the job.
This bit is suited for drilling into steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The 5/16-inch diameter and straight cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard three-jaw chucks on handheld drills, drill presses, and mill setups. The regular spiral flute geometry and tapered web configuration support chip evacuation and reduce heat buildup across a range of material hardnesses. It is designed for right-hand cutting and carries an ANSI standard designation along with NAS 907 specification compliance.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style replacement or direct-use jobber length drill bit compatible with any standard three-jaw chuck accepting a 5/16-inch straight cylindrical shank. Rated for use across material codes P, M, K, N, and S per the input specification.
This drill bit is installed and used by machinists, pipefitters, electricians, and maintenance trades on handheld drills or stationary drill presses. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck before operation and confirm the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and discard bits showing chipping or excessive wear to avoid workpiece damage or bit breakage.
