The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998011 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in metalworking applications. Manufactured from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it measures 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch) in diameter with a 5-inch overall length and a 3-5/8-inch flute length. The 135-degree split-point geometry reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to a conventional 118-degree point. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw drill chucks. This bit is suited for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, plumbers, electricians, and HVAC fabricators who drill through metal as part of their daily workflow.
This bit performs across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It falls within the Series R10B-R15B-R18B family and meets ANSI and NAS 907 specifications. Typical applications include drilling pilot holes, clearance holes, and through-holes in sheet metal, structural steel, and mechanical components during fabrication or service work. The regular spiral and tapered web configuration provide consistent chip evacuation in most drill press, hand drill, and mill setups.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style jobber drill bit compatible with any standard three-jaw drill chuck accepting a 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including drill presses, hand drills, and milling machines used in metal fabrication and mechanical service applications.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using standard drill presses, hand drills, or milling machines. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to manage heat buildup and extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use; a dull or damaged point increases thrust and can cause workpiece damage or bit breakage.
