The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998001 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and hard materials. It measures 15/64 inch (0.2344 inch) in diameter with a 135-degree split-point angle that reduces walking on contact and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The overall length is 3.875 inches with a 2.625-inch flute length, giving it a standard 11xD flute-to-diameter ratio. The bit is made from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating that reduces friction and provides light corrosion resistance during storage and use. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators reach for this bit when drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium.
The 5998001 is suited for production and maintenance drilling operations where a straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks. The two-flute spiral design clears chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling. The tapered web with web-thinning reduces thrust requirements, which is especially useful when drilling harder alloys or stainless steel. This bit conforms to ANSI standards and carries the NAS 907 specification designation, making it appropriate for aerospace and industrial maintenance applications. It is sold individually and fits into any standard keyed or keyless chuck sized for a 15/64-inch straight shank.

Install the shank fully into the chuck jaws and tighten securely before operation. Select an appropriate cutting speed and feed rate for the workpiece material — harder materials such as stainless steel and titanium require slower speeds and consistent feed pressure to avoid work hardening. Use a cutting fluid or coolant appropriate for the workpiece material to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges before use and replace if chipping or dullness is observed.
