The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997960 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit from the QC91P series, built for heavy-duty drilling in a wide range of metals and alloys. The bit measures 0.2280 inches in diameter (wire size No. 1) with a 135-degree split point that promotes self-centering and reduces walking on entry. The parabolic flute geometry — running 3-3/4 inches in length for an overall length of 6-1/8 inches — accelerates chip evacuation and supports deeper hole applications. Constructed from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit is suited for machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance mechanics working with production or repair drilling tasks.
This bit is designed for general-purpose drilling across a broad spectrum of materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, hardened steel, tempered steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, copper, titanium, titanium alloy, nickel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, and graphite. The taper length body provides added reach compared to a jobber-length bit, making it well-suited for applications where standard-length bits cannot access the workpiece or where a deeper hole is required in a single pass.
Designed as an OEM-style taper length replacement or production drill bit for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks and compatible straight-shank tool holders accepting a 0.2280-inch shank diameter. Suitable for bench drill presses, radial arm drills, CNC machining centers, and hand-held electric drills where taper length geometry is specified.
Install in a properly sized chuck or collet and tighten securely before operation to prevent bit slippage or runout. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured — never hand-hold small workpieces during drilling. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for ferrous metals and stainless steel to extend tool life and manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges and split point for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged point should be resharpened or the bit replaced before drilling resumes.
