The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997798 is a No. 67 wire-gauge cobalt jobber drill bit built for heavy-duty drilling in steel and other demanding workpiece materials. It measures 1.375 inches overall with a 0.5-inch flute length and a straight cylindrical shank diameter of 0.0320 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust required to start a hole. An oxide and straw coating provides lubricity and heat resistance during cutting. The 2-flute regular spiral geometry clears chips efficiently in short-run and production drilling operations. This bit is specified to ANSI and NAS 907 standards and is suited for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworking professionals.
This jobber drill is designed for drilling steel and falls within workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S — covering carbon steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous, and heat-resistant alloys. With a maximum drilling depth of 0.5 inches and a 16xD flute-to-diameter ratio, it is well matched to thin-stock and shallow-hole applications typical in fabrication shops, field maintenance, and toolroom work. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration keeps cutting forces manageable in harder materials. Part of the R10CO-R15CO-R18CO series, it is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of 12.
Designed for use in steel and compatible workpiece material categories P, M, K, N, and S per the supplier specification. Part of the PRECISION TWIST DRILL R10CO-R15CO-R18CO series. No coolant-through capability; suitable for dry or externally lubricated drilling setups.
Installation of this drill bit is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard drill press, CNC machine, or hand drill with a compatible chuck. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck before operation to prevent slippage and runout. Use appropriate cutting fluid for steel workpieces to extend tool life and improve hole quality. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable ANSI machining guidelines when operating rotary cutting tools.
