The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997792 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for high-volume hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating, the bit measures 0.0730 inches in diameter (wire size 49) with a 2-inch overall length and a 1-inch flute length. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust required to start a hole. A right-hand spiral flute with a regular helix clears chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. Licensed machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance trades use this bit in hand drills, drill presses, and CNC drilling applications.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The heavy-duty grade construction and NAS 907 specification make it appropriate for demanding production environments as well as maintenance and repair work. The straight-cylindrical shank seats cleanly in standard drill chucks. Web-thinned construction reduces cutting resistance in harder workpiece materials, making it a practical choice for both low-speed manual drilling and higher-speed machine setups.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0730-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including hand drills, bench drill presses, and CNC drilling machines. Suitable for workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S per ISO classification.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should secure the bit fully in the chuck before operation, verifying no runout before beginning a cut. Always power down and de-energize any machine tool before changing bits. Use cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend tool life and manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges before each use — at 0.0730 inches diameter, the bit is susceptible to breakage if fed too aggressively or used in a worn chuck.
