The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997706 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit sized to No. 19 wire gauge (0.1660 inches diameter), designed for drilling into steel and other hard or abrasive materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on contact and lowers the thrust required to start a hole, making it well-suited for production and maintenance drilling environments. A straw-colored oxide finish provides added surface hardness and helps resist heat buildup during cutting operations. The web-thinned, tapered web construction further reduces cutting resistance for cleaner, faster penetration. Licensed metalworking tradespeople and maintenance machinists are the primary installers.
This bit is suited for general-purpose metal drilling in both shop and field maintenance settings. Its cobalt construction handles elevated cutting temperatures better than standard high-speed steel, making it a preferred choice when drilling medium-to-hard steels, stainless, and similarly tough alloys. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. With a maximum drilling depth of 2.125 inches and a flute-to-diameter ratio of 13xD, this bit handles through-hole and blind-hole applications common in HVAC fabrication, plumbing rough-in metalwork, and electrical panel and enclosure work.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 0.1660-inch straight shank. Part of the R10CO-R15CO-R18CO series. Primary workpiece material categories include steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and heat-resistant alloys (material codes P, M, K, N, S).
Installation is performed by machinists, metalworkers, or qualified maintenance technicians. Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck and verify runout before starting a cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend bit life, even though this bit does not support through-tool coolant delivery. Operate at speeds and feeds appropriate for the material hardness and hole diameter per standard machining practice.
