The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997600 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of materials. Built from high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it carries a 1/16-inch diameter and a 135-degree split-point tip that reduces walking on entry and requires no center punch on most surfaces. Overall length is 1.875 inches with a 0.875-inch flute length, making it well suited for short-reach drilling tasks. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. This bit is part of the Series R10B-R15B-R18B line and is graded heavy duty despite its small diameter, targeting production and maintenance drilling environments where consistent performance across multiple holes matters.
This drill bit is intended for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium — material codes P, M, K, N, and S. It fits residential maintenance, commercial facility work, and light fabrication scenarios where a reliable small-diameter bit is needed. HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople commonly keep 1/16-inch bits on hand for pilot holes, sheet metal penetrations, and light fixture or bracket work. The flute-to-diameter ratio of 14xD and regular spiral type support chip evacuation in both shallow and moderate-depth holes up to 0.875 inches.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 1/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium.
Installation is performed by a machinist, maintenance technician, or trade professional using a handheld drill, drill press, or similar rotary tool. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Apply cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend bit life. Do not exceed the maximum drilling depth of 0.875 inches without retracting to clear chips.
