The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997596 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and hard materials. Ground from high speed steel with a steam oxide finish, it measures 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch decimal) in diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle. Overall length is 2-7/8 inches, and the flute length runs 1-3/4 inches, providing a maximum drilling depth of 1-3/4 inches. The two-spiral flutes are cut in a regular right-hand configuration with a tapered, web-thinned web geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. It belongs to the R10A series and conforms to ANSI and NAS 907 standards. This bit is sold individually and is appropriate for use in drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling setups.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in any standard straight-shank drill chuck. Compatible primary workpiece material codes: P (steel), M (stainless steel and superalloys), K (cast iron), N (non-ferrous metals), and S (superalloys and titanium), per ISO material classification.
Install into a keyed or keyless drill chuck and confirm the shank is fully seated and secured before operation. Power down or unplug the drill before bit changes. Use cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to manage heat buildup; dry drilling is acceptable for mild steel and cast iron with this steam oxide-coated bit. Dispose of worn bits per shop protocol — a dull bit generates excess heat and can work-harden stainless and titanium workpieces.
