The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997581 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and hard materials. Built from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it measures 7/16 inches in diameter with a 5.5-inch overall length and a 4-1/16-inch flute length. The 118-degree standard point angle is suited for drilling into steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The right-hand spiral flute with a regular spiral type and tapered web configuration provides efficient chip evacuation. Web thinning reduces thrust requirements at the cutting edge. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals install this bit using standard drill chucks.
This bit is appropriate for drilling operations across residential, commercial, and industrial settings where a general-purpose jobber-length bit is required. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw drill chucks and most magnetic drill press adapters. With a flute-to-diameter ratio of 9xD and a maximum drilling depth of 4-1/16 inches, it fits production drilling tasks on steel fabrication, mechanical assembly, and maintenance repair work. The Series R10A-R15A-R18A designation covers a range of jobber-length HSS bits from Precision Twist Drill, and this bit meets ANSI and NAS 907 standards.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style jobber-length drill bit compatible with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces; suitable for use in any standard drill press or handheld drill accepting a 7/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with drilling equipment and cutting tool safety. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened on the shank before operation. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or damage before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed. Follow applicable workplace safety standards and equipment manufacturer guidelines when operating drilling machinery.
