The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997552 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. It measures 27/64 inch (0.4219 inches) in diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle and a steam oxide coating that provides mild lubricity and corrosion resistance during storage and cutting. The 2-flute spiral design with a regular helix and tapered web configuration evacuates chips efficiently on through-hole and blind-hole operations. The straight cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks. This bit is part of the Series R10A-R15A-R18A product family and conforms to ANSI and NAS 907 standards.
This drill bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium in both shop and field environments. The 5.375-inch overall length and 3.9375-inch flute length support drilling depths up to 3-15/16 inches, making it appropriate for structural, fabrication, and maintenance drilling tasks. Licensed trades including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical contractors frequently use jobber-length HSS bits for metal panel, bracket, and conduit work. The 27/64-inch diameter is commonly used as a tap-drill size and for clearance holes in light structural applications.
Compatible with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces (workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, S). Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 27/64-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Install this bit into a drill press, hand drill, or right-angle drill with a standard keyed or keyless chuck rated for the shank diameter. Secure the workpiece before drilling and use cutting fluid when working with stainless steel or titanium to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if the point shows chipping or excessive wear. No special tools are required for chuck installation beyond the chuck key or tightening collar supplied with the drill.
