The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997433 is a taper length drill bit engineered for heavy-duty metal cutting in professional machining and fabrication environments. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split-point tip that starts cutting on contact without requiring a center punch. The parabolic flute geometry — running 5-9/32 inches along the body — promotes aggressive chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during deep-hole drilling. The straight shank measures 12 millimeters in diameter and accepts standard chucks without adapters. This bit is rated for high-performance tool application and carries a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for reduced thrust and improved penetration.
This drill bit is intended for use across a wide range of materials in industrial, maintenance, and shop environments. It is well-suited for machine shops, tool and die operations, and maintenance technicians working on structural steel, castings, and non-ferrous metals. The 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it effective for taper-length holes that exceed standard jobber-length depth requirements. It conforms to DIN 340 specification, making it appropriate for metric-dimensioned workpiece applications.
Compatible with a broad range of materials including alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, stainless steel, steel, tempered steel, titanium, and titanium alloy. Designed for use in standard drill press, CNC machining center, or hand-held drill applications accepting a 12 mm straight shank.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or qualified trade professionals familiar with metal cutting operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the spindle speed is set to an appropriate RPM for the material being drilled before operation. Power down and de-energize all equipment before changing or securing the bit in the chuck. Do not exceed the rated capacity of the drill press or machining center for the material hardness being cut.
