The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997425 is a taper length drill bit from the QC91PM series, designed for demanding metalworking and fabrication applications. Built from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry that reduces walking on initial contact. The parabolic flute geometry, paired with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration, promotes efficient chip evacuation and helps maintain cutting speeds through deeper holes. At 11 mm in diameter with a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this bit is sized for through-hole work where standard jobber length falls short. It is intended for installation and use by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in shop or field environments.
This drill bit is suited for use in stationary drill presses, milling machines, and handheld industrial drills across a wide range of materials. Its taper length body provides extended reach compared to standard jobber bits, making it appropriate for deep-hole drilling in structural components, fixtures, and fabricated assemblies. The straight shank interfaces directly with standard drill chucks without requiring an adapter. Material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, stainless steel, steel, tempered steel, titanium, and titanium alloy.
Designed as an OEM-style taper length drill bit conforming to DIN 340 standards, compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks accepting an 11 mm shank diameter.
This drill bit is installed by machinists and fabricators using standard drill chuck equipment. Before changing or setting a bit, ensure the drill press, mill, or handheld drill is fully powered down and the chuck is secured with the appropriate key before beginning work. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate to the workpiece material to extend tool life, particularly when drilling stainless steel, hardened steel, or titanium alloys. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate or spindle speed for the material being drilled, as overloading a high-speed steel bit can cause premature dulling or breakage.
