The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997230 is a taper length drill bit designed for heavy-duty general purpose drilling across a wide range of metals and materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it measures 23/64 inch (0.3594 inches) in diameter with a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry and reduced walking on hard surfaces. The parabolic flute geometry provides efficient chip evacuation, making it well-suited for deeper holes relative to diameter. The straight shank seats directly into standard drill chucks without adapters. Licensed HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and general trade professionals keep this bit on hand for sheet metal, structural steel, copper pipe, and aluminum extrusion work.
The 5997230 fits residential and commercial trade applications where a longer reach than a jobber-length bit is required without moving to a full extra-length drill. Its 4.25-inch flute length and 6.75-inch overall length give additional clearance for drilling through thick stock, flanges, angle iron, or structural members. The bit is suited for use in standard drill presses, magnetic base drills, and hand-held electric drills with appropriate speed and feed settings. Material compatibility includes alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, stainless steel, steel, tempered steel, titanium, and titanium alloy.
Designed as an OEM-series replacement and standard trade bit in the QC91P series, compatible with straight-shank drill chucks accommodating a 0.3594-inch shank diameter. Suitable for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, hardened steel, stainless steel, titanium, and related alloys.
Install in a properly sized straight-shank chuck and tighten securely before operation. Always power down or unplug the drill before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, hardened steel, or titanium to extend bit life and manage heat. Follow applicable OSHA eye and hand protection requirements when operating drilling equipment in trade environments.
