The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997211 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for heavy-duty general-purpose drilling across a wide range of metallic and non-metallic materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split point for self-centering starts that reduce walking without a center punch. The parabolic flute geometry provides aggressive chip evacuation and reduced friction in deeper holes. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-5/8-inch flute length, giving it extended reach compared to a jobber-length bit while maintaining rigidity. Diameter is 13/64 inch (0.2031 inch decimal). It conforms to ANSI standards and carries a heavy-duty grade rating.
This bit is suited for machine shop, fabrication, maintenance, and field applications where drilling into alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, titanium, magnesium, hardened steel, tempered steel, and similar materials is required. The taper length format is commonly chosen when jobber bits lack sufficient flute depth for the application. The parabolic flute profile and web-thinned, tapered web configuration make it well-suited for high-speed drilling in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power drills where chip clearance is critical.
Designed as an OEM-style taper length drill bit for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting a 0.2031-inch straight cylindrical shank. Rated for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, stainless steel, steel, tempered steel, titanium, and titanium alloy as specified by the manufacturer.
Install and service drill bits with the machine fully powered down and the chuck key removed from the area before tightening or loosening. Secure the shank fully into the chuck jaws and confirm concentricity before running at speed. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the material being drilled; this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Follow shop safety standards and applicable ANSI B11 machine tool safety guidelines when operating drill presses or CNC equipment.
