The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997196 is a taper length, high-speed steel (HSS) drill bit designed for demanding production and maintenance drilling applications. It measures 0.2500 inches (1/4 inch, Letter E) in diameter with a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry and reduced walking on startup. The parabolic flute geometry, running 3-3/4 inches in length with a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio, promotes efficient chip evacuation during deep-hole drilling. The bright/uncoated finish and web-thinned, tapered web configuration make this a heavy-duty general-purpose bit suited for use by machinists, maintenance techs, and fabricators working across a wide range of materials.
This drill bit performs across an extensive range of workpiece materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, tempered steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, copper, titanium, titanium alloy, magnesium, magnesium alloy, nickel, and graphite. Its taper length body — with an overall length of 6-1/8 inches — provides reach for applications where a jobber-length bit falls short. The straight, non-threaded shank diameter of 0.2500 inches seats in standard 1/4-inch chucks and collets. Series QC91P is built to ANSI standards for consistent dimensional accuracy.

Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trained maintenance technicians familiar with proper drilling practices. Secure the workpiece fully before beginning any drilling operation and ensure the shank is fully seated and tightened in the chuck or collet before applying power. Match spindle speed and feed rate to the workpiece material and bit diameter per standard machining references. Inspect the cutting edges and web before each use and replace the bit if chipping, excessive wear, or deformation is present.
