The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997184 is a taper length high speed steel drill bit in the QC91P series, sized to wire gauge 31 (0.1200 inches decimal). It features a 135-degree split point and a parabolic flute profile for efficient chip evacuation in demanding drilling applications. With a flute length of 2-3/4 inches and an overall length of 5-1/8 inches, this bit provides greater reach than a jobber-length drill while maintaining rigidity. The straight shank and right-hand cut make it compatible with standard drill chucks. It is used by machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and maintenance tradespeople working in metal fabrication and mechanical service environments.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in a wide range of metallic and non-metallic materials, including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, titanium, nickel, magnesium, tempered steel, hardened steel, and graphite. The taper length body provides additional clearance in deeper hole applications where a standard jobber bit falls short. The self-centering split point reduces the need for a center punch on flat surfaces, improving positioning accuracy on the first pass. It is appropriate for manual drill press, CNC, or hand drill use in shop or field settings.
Designed as a general purpose taper length drill bit for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks. Suitable for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, malleable iron, nickel, stainless steel, tempered steel, and titanium alloys. Conforms to ANSI standards.
This bit is installed and serviced by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tradespeople using drill presses, lathes, or portable hand drills. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck before operation and verify runout before drilling production holes. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use; a dull or damaged bit increases thrust load and can cause workpiece damage or bit breakage.
