The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997177 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit in the QC91P series, sized to wire gauge number 7 (0.2010 inches decimal). Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split point and a parabolic flute profile. The web-thinned, tapered web construction reduces thrust during entry and promotes self-centering without a center punch on many materials. With a flute length of 3.625 inches and an overall length of 6 inches, this bit is suited for deeper hole applications where a jobber-length bit falls short. A licensed machinist, toolroom technician, or maintenance mechanic would typically reach for this bit in production and MRO drilling operations.
This drill bit is rated for general-purpose heavy-duty use across a broad range of workpiece materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, tempered steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, copper, nickel, titanium, titanium alloy, magnesium, magnesium alloy, and graphite. Designed as a general-purpose taper length replacement drill bit compatible with any standard drill press, CNC machining center, or hand-held power drill accepting a straight shank of 0.2010 inches. Secure the straight shank fully in a chuck or collet rated for the shank diameter before operation. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter — consult published HSS drilling charts for the specific material being cut. Use cutting fluid or coolant where the material and setup allow, particularly in stainless steel or titanium applications. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use; a dull or chipped bit in high-hardness material increases breakage risk and damages the workpiece.
