The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997089 is a taper length drill bit in the QC91P series, sized for wire gauge 3 (0.2130 inches decimal). Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split point and a parabolic flute profile designed to clear chips efficiently and reduce cutting resistance. The straight cylindrical shank is web-thinned and tapered-web configured for improved self-centering performance. At 6 inches overall length with a 3.625-inch flute, this bit is suited for applications where extra reach is needed beyond what a jobber-length drill provides. Licensed machinists, HVAC fabricators, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians are the typical users.
This drill bit handles a broad range of materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, tempered steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, copper, magnesium, magnesium alloy, nickel, titanium, titanium alloy, and graphite. Its general-purpose, heavy-duty grade rating makes it appropriate for production drilling, field fabrication, and repair work across light and heavy trade applications where a standard jobber-length bit lacks the reach required to complete the bore.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with any standard drill press, magnetic drill, or handheld drill driver equipped with a chuck sized to accept a 0.2130-inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for right-hand cutting operations only.
This bit is installed by a machinist, pipefitter, or qualified tradesperson using a drill press or powered hand drill with an appropriately sized chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate to the workpiece material when drilling hardened, stainless, or titanium alloys to extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and remove the bit from service if chipping or dulling is observed.
