The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996848 is a jobber-length, high speed steel drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and hard materials. It carries a 135-degree split point for fast starts without center-punching and a web-thinned, parabolic spiral flute geometry that clears chips efficiently during deep cuts. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 27/64 inch in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks. At 5.375 inches overall length with a 3.9375-inch flute length, it delivers 9xD depth-to-diameter ratio capability. The bright, uncoated finish suits general ferrous and non-ferrous work without added coating cost. Machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and general trade mechanics reach for this bit when drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in residential and commercial trade environments alike. Its 135-degree point angle reduces thrust load and walking on hard surfaces, making it practical for hand-held drill work as well as drill-press operations. The parabolic flute profile aids chip evacuation in deeper holes and in gummy materials such as stainless steel and titanium. It does not support coolant-through delivery, so conventional external cutting fluid or cutting oil should be used when drilling demanding alloys.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit conforming to ANSI standards and suitable for use in any standard drill press, magnetic drill, or hand drill with a chuck capacity accommodating a 27/64 inch straight shank. Series QC21P.
Installation is performed by machinists, pipefitters, millwrights, or general mechanical tradespeople. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Apply appropriate cutting oil or external cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to manage heat buildup and extend tool life. Wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety protocols during operation.
