The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996792 is a 5/16-inch diameter jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and hard materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point and a parabolic spiral flute for efficient chip evacuation and reduced walking on entry. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 5/16 inch in diameter and is compatible with standard drill chucks. Overall length is 4.5 inches with a flute length of 3.1875 inches, giving adequate reach for most production and maintenance drilling tasks. This is a heavy-duty, web-thinned bit conforming to ANSI standards.
This bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. It fits standard shop and field drilling applications where a jobber-length bit is appropriate. The QC21P series is positioned as a heavy-duty general-purpose option for machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and fabricators working on structural and mechanical assemblies. It is sold individually and is well-suited for both production environments and service truck use.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard 3/8-inch or larger keyed or keyless drill chuck accepting a 5/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces per ANSI workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Install in a drill press, hand drill, or mill with a chuck rated for the 5/16-inch shank diameter, and secure firmly before operation. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece to prevent rotation. Use cutting fluid or coolant on harder materials such as stainless steel or superalloys to extend tool life, as this bit does not have a through-coolant channel. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace when chipping or dulling is evident to maintain hole quality and operator safety.
