The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996572 is a taper length cobalt drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and trade applications. Built to Series M51CO standards, it features a 1/2-inch diameter straight cylindrical shank, a 135-degree split point for self-centering starts, and a spiral flute configuration with web thinning for reduced thrust and cleaner chip evacuation. The gold oxide coating helps resist heat buildup during extended use. At 7-3/4 inches overall length with a 4-3/4-inch flute length, it provides additional reach compared to jobber-length bits. Right-hand cut geometry suits conventional drilling setups. Weighing approximately 0.08 pounds, it is a single-piece unit packaged individually.
This bit is suited for machinists, maintenance mechanics, fabricators, and metalworking tradespeople who need extended reach in tight or deep-hole applications. The cobalt construction and heavy-duty grade rating make it appropriate for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hardened steel, brass, bronze, copper, aluminum, aluminum alloy, magnesium, magnesium alloy, nickel, nickel alloy, malleable iron, high-strength bronze, cermet, graphite, and reinforced plastic. The 6xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio supports chip clearance in deeper cuts without sacrificing rigidity.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use taper length drill bit compatible with standard 1/2-inch capacity drill chucks on bench drill presses, magnetic drills, and handheld drill motors used in metalworking and fabrication environments.
Install in a properly rated drill press or handheld drill with a chuck capacity of at least 1/2 inch. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and confirm runout before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend bit life and maintain cut quality. Power down and de-energize all equipment before changing bits or adjusting workholding.
