The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996569 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into hard and tough materials where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. Built to Series M42CO standards, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and cutting force on entry. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 1.375-inch flute length, this short-body design provides added rigidity, making it well-suited for production drilling operations where deflection and chatter must be minimized. It is right-hand cut with a regular spiral flute and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration.
This bit is intended for use in screw machine operations, CNC drilling, and general-purpose production environments where hard or abrasive workpiece materials are encountered. The M42 cobalt grade material provides elevated heat resistance compared to standard M2 high-speed steel, allowing the bit to maintain cutting edge integrity at higher feed rates and spindle speeds. It is suited for use in manual drill presses, CNC machining centers, and turret lathes. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and production floor operators working with stainless steel, hardened alloys, titanium, and similar hard materials are the primary users.
Designed as a direct-fit screw machine length drill bit for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet systems. Sized at 0.238 inches diameter, corresponding to Letter B drill size, within the 0.200 to 0.250 inch diameter range of the M42CO series. Primary workpiece material designation is hard material including ferrous alloys and stainless steel.
Install into a clean, properly sized drill chuck or collet and tighten securely before use. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant on the workpiece surface to extend bit life when drilling hard alloys, as this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use, as cobalt bits subjected to excessive heat or improper feed rates can develop micro-fractures that compromise cutting performance.
