The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996446 is a taper length cobalt drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in a wide range of metallic and non-metallic materials. Built from cobalt tool steel, it features a 135-degree notched split point that reduces walking and allows self-centering entry without a center punch. The straight shank measures 3/4 inches in diameter, and the spiral flute geometry is web-thinned with a tapered web configuration for improved chip evacuation. At 9.75 inches overall length with a 5.875-inch flute, this bit is suited for deeper hole applications where a jobber-length bit falls short. Right-hand cut direction. Meets ANSI standards.
This taper length drill bit is intended for professional machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, fabricators, and maintenance mechanics who drill through tough materials on a regular basis. The M51CO series is rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, nickel and nickel alloys, high-strength bronze, brass, copper, aluminum, aluminum alloy, magnesium, magnesium alloy, cermet, graphite, and reinforced plastics. The extended flute length makes it well-suited for deep hole work in structural components, heavy plate, and machined parts where standard-length bits cannot reach required depth.
Designed as an OEM-style taper length drill bit for use in standard 3/4-inch straight-shank drill chucks and compatible drilling equipment. Suitable for bench drill presses, magnetic drills, and CNC machining centers that accept straight-shank tooling in this diameter.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the shank fully in a properly rated chuck before operation, and confirm the chuck is tightened and the spindle is locked before changing bits. Always wear appropriate eye protection and ensure workpieces are clamped securely before drilling. Do not exceed the speed and feed ratings appropriate for the material being drilled and the tool diameter.
