The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996444 is a taper length cobalt drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in demanding materials. Built from cobalt tool steel with a coated finish, it delivers extended tool life in hard-to-drill alloys and ferrous metals. The 135-degree split point promotes self-centering and reduces walking on entry, eliminating the need for a center punch in most applications. At 3/32 inch (0.0938 inches) diameter with a 4-1/4 inch overall length, this bit handles deeper reach situations where standard-length bits fall short. Spiral flutes and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration promote efficient chip evacuation and reduce thrust load during drilling.
This taper length drill bit is suited for metalworking applications across fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and field service environments. It performs in alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, hardened steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, high strength bronze, copper, nickel, nickel alloy, magnesium, magnesium alloy, cermet, graphite, and reinforced plastic materials. The straight shank is compatible with standard drill chucks. Right-hand cut geometry makes it compatible with conventional drilling setups. The Series M51CO designation identifies it as a high-performance cobalt series bit built to ANSI standards.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use taper length drill bit for applications requiring a 3/32 inch (0.0938 inches) straight-shank cobalt bit compatible with standard drill chucks. Suitable for use with benchtop drill presses, hand-held power drills, and CNC drilling equipment set up for straight-shank tooling.
Install into a properly sized drill chuck and tighten securely before operation. Confirm spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter before drilling. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection when drilling metal. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use, as cobalt bits used in hardened or abrasive materials can show edge degradation that affects hole quality and accuracy.
