The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996426 is an extra length high-speed steel drill bit engineered for deep-hole drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. It measures 21/64 inch (0.3281 inch decimal) in diameter with a 12-inch overall length and a 9-inch parabolic flute length, giving it the reach needed where standard-length bits fall short. The 135-degree split-point tip starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking and improving accuracy. The parabolic flute geometry promotes fast chip evacuation, lowering heat buildup during extended cuts. Intended for use by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance professionals who need controlled drilling through thick stock or deep into structural members.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling where reach is a limiting factor. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. Its bright, uncoated finish makes it a cost-effective choice for shops that resharpen bits in-house. The web-thinned, tapered web construction reduces thrust force at the cutting edge, which is valuable when drilling harder alloys or stacked materials. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for most drill press and hand-drill setups.
Rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, stainless steel, steel, structural steel, tempered steel, thermoplastics, and thermosetting plastics. Part of the QC1290P series.
Install into a properly sized drill chuck and confirm the shank is fully seated and securely tightened before operation. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece to prevent rotation. Apply cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals or hardened alloys to extend bit life and manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and remove the bit from service if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
