The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996318 is a 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch) diameter jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Built from high speed steel with a bronze oxide coating, this bit features a 135-degree split point with web thinning for reduced walking and easier center starting on hard materials. The two-flute spiral design with regular helix promotes efficient chip evacuation. Overall length is 2.875 inches with a 1.75 inch flute length. It is sized and toleranced to ANSI standards and is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals across fabrication and service applications.
This bit suits residential and commercial trade work where drilling into ferrous metals is required. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without modification. With a flute-to-diameter ratio of 12xD, it handles drilling depths up to 1.75 inches, making it well suited for sheet metal penetrations, anchor clearance holes, pilot holes ahead of taps, and general service drilling in the field or shop. It is part of the Series HX10-HX15-HX18 family.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber length replacement drill bit for use in standard keyed or keyless drill chucks accepting a 9/64 inch straight cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium as specified by the manufacturer.
This bit is installed by machinists, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and electricians performing metal drilling tasks. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before use. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel, cast iron, or titanium to extend bit life and manage heat. Disconnect or lock out power to any electrically operated drilling equipment before changing bits, per applicable OSHA lockout-tagout procedures.
