The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996286 is a 31/64 inch (0.4844 inch) diameter jobber-length drill bit designed for drilling high-temperature alloys and other demanding workpiece materials. Built from M2 high speed steel with a bronze (straw) coating, it features a 135-degree split point for reduced walking and improved penetration on hard or tough materials. The two-flute regular spiral configuration provides efficient chip evacuation over a 4-3/8 inch flute length. This is a heavy-duty, general-purpose jobber drill suited for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals working in metal fabrication and mechanical service environments.
The 5996286 is rated for drilling high-temp alloys and falls within material grade codes P, M, K, and S, making it applicable across a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. With an overall length of 5-7/8 inches and a straight cylindrical shank of 31/64 inch diameter, it mounts directly in standard drill chucks without requiring an adapter. The 1-1/2 inch shank engagement length provides solid clamping in most standard chuck configurations. It belongs to the HX10-HX15-HX18 series and conforms to ANSI standards for jobber drills.
Designed for use in standard drill presses, CNC drilling machines, and hand-held power drills equipped with a chuck capable of accepting a 31/64 inch straight shank. Rated for high-temp alloy workpiece materials per series HX10-HX15-HX18 application guidelines.
Installation is performed by machinists or qualified technicians. Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck before operation and confirm chuck key is removed before powering the machine. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for high-temp alloy applications to manage heat buildup, as this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Inspect the cutting edges and web before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
