The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996109 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit engineered for drilling into hard materials where standard high-speed steel bits lose their edge. It carries a 0.0785 inch diameter corresponding to #47 wire gauge sizing, a 135-degree split point for fast penetration and reduced walking, and a web-thinned, tapered-web construction that lowers thrust requirements on tough stock. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. At 1-11/16 inches overall length with an 11/16 inch flute, the stub-length body provides rigidity suited to close-tolerance screw machine and CNC operations. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die workers, and production floor operators are the typical users.
This bit is applied in screw machine operations, CNC drilling centers, and manual drill press work where short, rigid tooling is required to maintain hole accuracy in hard or abrasive workpiece materials. The M41CO series cobalt alloy construction retains hardness at elevated cutting temperatures, making it appropriate for stainless steel, hardened alloys, cast iron, and similarly demanding materials. The right-hand spiral flute clears chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling. This is a single-piece package sold in multiples of 12 per order.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production consumable for screw machine and CNC drilling operations requiring a #47 wire gauge cobalt stub-length drill bit with a straight-cylindrical shank conforming to ANSI standards.
Installation is performed by machinists and machine operators. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before commencing a cut. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before changing tooling. Do not exceed the recommended surface footage for cobalt tooling in the material being drilled, and apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to maximize tool life.
