The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996079 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into hard materials where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. It measures 0.0995 inches in diameter with an overall length of 1-13/16 inches and a flute length of 13/16 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and requires less thrust to start the cut. The web-thinned, tapered web construction improves chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during high-cycle drilling operations. This bit is built to M41 cobalt material grade and meets ANSI standards, making it a reliable choice for production and maintenance drilling applications.
This bit is suited for drilling hard materials in screw machine, CNC, or manual drill press applications where short, rigid tooling is required. The screw machine length geometry provides greater rigidity than jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in precision drilling setups. Right-hand cut with a regular spiral flute makes it compatible with standard clockwise-rotating spindles. It is commonly used by machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians working on ferrous and hard alloy workpieces in industrial and commercial settings.
Designed as a direct-fit screw machine length drill bit for standard drill chucks accepting a straight-cylindrical shank, compatible with screw machines, CNC drilling centers, and manual drill presses used in Series M41CO tooling setups.
Install into a properly rated drill chuck and confirm shank is fully seated and secured before operation. Ensure spindle rotation is set to right-hand (clockwise) before use. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling hard materials to extend tool life, noting this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping between uses, as cobalt bits used on hard materials are subject to edge fatigue under excessive feed pressure.
