The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5995976 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and difficult-to-machine materials. Built to ANSI standards, it measures 0.1719 inches (11/64 inch) in diameter with an overall length of 2-1/8 inches and a flute length of 1-1/16 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking at entry and requires less thrust to penetrate. The M40CO-series cobalt construction provides heat resistance and edge retention, making it a reliable choice for production environments and repetitive drilling tasks. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, pipefitters, and general trade professionals install this bit using standard drill presses or hand-held power tools.
This bit is suited for drilling hard materials including hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other high-strength metals encountered in fabrication and maintenance work. The screw machine length profile offers a shorter, more rigid body than jobber-length bits, which improves control and reduces deflection in applications where precision hole placement matters. The 2.5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in moderate-depth holes without coolant-through capability required.
Designed for use with standard drill presses, CNC machines, and hand-held power drills accepting straight-cylindrical shanks. Fits applications requiring drilling in hard materials within the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with cutting tool safety. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the chuck is fully tightened on the straight-cylindrical shank before operation. This bit does not support coolant-through delivery, so external coolant or cutting fluid is recommended when drilling hard metals to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dullness is observed.
