The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5995972 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit engineered for drilling hard and abrasive materials in high-demand production environments. Built to ANSI standards, this bit features a 41/64 inch (0.6406 inch) diameter, a 135-degree split point for fast penetration and reduced walking, and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that lowers thrust requirements. The M40CO series cobalt construction provides heat resistance beyond standard HSS, making it suited for stainless steel, hardened alloys, and other tough workpiece materials. It is installed by machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance mechanics working with production or repair drilling applications.
This bit is designed for use in screw machine, drill press, and CNC drilling operations where a shorter flute-to-diameter ratio and rigid setup are required. The 2.5xD flute-by-diameter ratio and 2-7/8 inch flute length support chip evacuation in shallow to moderate depth holes. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw chucks and collet holders. Primary workpiece material classification is hard material, making this bit appropriate for ferrous metals, stainless grades, and high-strength alloys commonly encountered in industrial and mechanical trades.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use bit for standard three-jaw chucks and collet-style drill holders accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 41/64 inch diameter class.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance mechanics familiar with rotary cutting tools. Ensure the drill press, lathe, or CNC spindle is powered down and locked out before mounting or removing the bit. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck or collet to the correct engagement depth before beginning operation. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material; cobalt tooling tolerates heat but improper feeds can cause premature edge wear or breakage.
