The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5995960 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for drilling hard and abrasive materials in high-demand production environments. Built to ANSI standards, this heavy-duty bit features a 0.75 inch diameter, a 135-degree split point, and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves hole starting accuracy. The M40CO series cobalt construction provides elevated heat and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel bits. Right-hand spiral flute geometry evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. This bit is suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators who regularly work with stainless steel, hardened steel, cast iron, and other hard workpiece materials.
The 5995960 is intended for use in screw machine operations, CNC drilling setups, drill presses, and hand-held power drilling applications where a shorter, stiffer bit body is preferred over jobber length. The screw machine length format reduces deflection and improves straightness in tight-tolerance hole applications. With a 3.125 inch flute length and 5 inch overall length, it fits standard drill chucks accepting straight cylindrical shanks. No coolant-through capability is present, so external cutting fluid application is recommended when drilling hard materials at extended run times.
Designed as a heavy-duty OEM-style replacement or production drill bit suitable for any standard drill chuck or collet system accepting a 0.75 inch straight cylindrical shank. Intended for hard workpiece materials including stainless steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and similarly abrasive substrates.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before beginning a drilling cycle. A licensed machinist or experienced fabricator should confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter before use. Apply cutting fluid externally when working with hard or stainless steels to extend tool life and manage heat buildup. Do not force the bit through interrupted cuts without reducing feed rate, as cobalt tooling can fracture under sudden lateral loads.
