The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5995710 is a cobalt taper length drill bit in wire gauge size 21, with a decimal diameter of 0.1590 inches. Built on the M52CO series platform, it features a 135-degree split point and a web-thinned, tapered web design that reduces walking and lowers the thrust force required at entry. The straight cylindrical shank and right-hand spiral flute are manufactured to ANSI standards. At 3.375 inches of flute length and 5.75 inches overall, this bit provides the extended reach that maintenance machinists and tool-and-die technicians need when drilling into deep or hard-to-access workpieces. Gold oxide coating improves lubricity and heat resistance during high-speed cutting operations.
This bit is suited for drilling through a wide range of production and maintenance materials, including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, hardened steel, nickel and nickel alloys, brass, bronze, high-strength bronze, copper, aluminum, aluminum alloy, magnesium, magnesium alloy, reinforced plastic, cermet, and graphite. The M52CO cobalt construction makes it especially appropriate in shops and field environments where heat buildup is a concern, such as prolonged drilling cycles or interrupted cuts in tough ferrous and non-ferrous stock. It is sold individually.
Designed for use in standard drill presses, milling machines, and hand-held drill motors equipped with a chuck sized to accept a 0.1590-inch straight shank. Appropriate for self-centering tooling applications across the listed material families.
Installation is performed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, or maintenance mechanics using a keyed or keyless drill chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel, hardened steel, or nickel alloys to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use; cobalt bits can chip if subjected to impact loading or side pressure beyond their rated capacity.
